No, you can apply on-line anytime.  Click here to create an application or apply.  You can reach our helpdesk at 502.564.8030

Yes, each applicant must use their own, unique email address to create their own COS account. Creating multiple accounts using the same email address will cause errors in processing. You can create your own email account by using one of the free email providers on the web, including Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail (Outlook).

No, a résumé is optional.  However, hiring agencies are provided access to your application and/or résumé for pre-screening purposes.

No.  You will complete an application initially.  You will only be able to edit the application when applying to additional vacancies.   

Yes.  There are four steps to the application process:

Step 1: Create a New Account in COS
Step 2: COS Job Application
Step 3: Search for Vacant Jobs
Step 4: Apply to Jobs

In accordance with KRS 18.A.150, Veterans’ Preference provides veterans, and in some instances their family members, opportunities to receive preference during the employment process for Merit Employment System positions within state government agencies. Read more click here.

If you have utilized all 12 available job history fields, you may list additional employment information in the ‘other' section of the COS application. The additional work history should contain the same information provided in the other 12 job history fields.

No, there is no limit. However, you must individually submit your COS application to each job vacancy.

You will receive a confirmation email letting you know that you have successfully submitted to the vacancy.  After the job posting end date, the Personnel Cabinet provides the hiring agency the list of applicants who have applied, known as the register. The hiring agency then has 90 days to determine the best fit for the vacancy, complete the selection process and make an appointment. 

The application submission status is a feature that allows you to view the status of your application for each job to which you have applied. For the definitions of status click here

Make sure the contact email address in your COS account is active. Also, many email providers filter junk emails. Their filters may mistakenly categorize emails from the Personnel Cabinet as ‘spam.’ To correct this problem, you need to add the email address to your email address book. This will tell your email provider not to divert emails from the Personnel Cabinet.

The Commonwealth of Kentucky collects only the personal information necessary to provide enhanced services to our citizens and customers. Please note that all non-exempt information collected by services may be subject to public disclosure under KRS 61.870, the Kentucky Open Records Act.  However, public records containing information of a personal nature are protected from disclosure by the personal privacy exemption of state law. Personal data in our possession is maintained and used in ways that respect individual privacy. The Commonwealth educates our employees about the importance of protecting personal information and consumer privacy, and only authorized employees have access to personal information. COS and its software provider, Kenexa Recruiter BrassRing, respects individual privacy. COS/Kenexa Recruiter BrassRing strives to collect and use personal information in a manner consistent with the laws of the countries in which it does business. Kenexa abides by the Safe Harbor Principles developed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the European Commission.
